GPS Guide: Steve Rosenberg's Sole-Soothing Will Release Tension And Help You De-Stress

The stress and strain of constantly being connected can sometimes take your life -- and your well-being -- off course. GPS For The Soul can help you find your way back to balance.

GPS Guides are our way of showing you what has relieved others' stress in the hopes that you will be able to identify solutions that work for you. We all have de-stressing "secret weapons" that we pull out in times of tension or anxiety, whether they be photos that relax us or make us smile, songs that bring us back to our heart, quotes or poems that create a feeling of harmony, or meditative exercises that help us find a sense of silence and calm. We encourage you to look at the GPS Guide below, visit our other GPS Guides here, and share with us your own personal tips for finding peace, balance and tranquility.

In his GPS Guide below, Dr. Steve Rosenberg guides you through a sole-soothing, stress-relieving foot practice that will restore the balance within your soul.

  • Close your eyes and kick your shoes off and take slow, easy, deep breaths. Visualize walking on the soft sand and flexing your toes into the sand with each step.

  • Feel the warmth of the sun beating on your face. Imagine your feet cooling down and feeling refreshed. ??

  • Feel the cool water refreshing your whole body on a hot summer day.

  • Visualize all the muscles in your legs and feet moving in synchrony.

  • Breathe slowly and deeply and feel the blood rushing throughout your entire body.

  • Feel your feet connected to the ground and the muscles in your body relaxing. Spread your toes and wiggle them around.

  • Roll your feet back and forth starting from heel to toe. Feel the muscles in your arch slowly stretching and relaxing.

  • Elevate your leg then bend and flex it at the knee. Point and stretch your toes pushing the heel out as far as you can.

  • Stand up, flex your knees, bend over and touch the ground with your hands. Straighten your legs bend over and try and touch the ground with your hands. Hold each stretch for 30 seconds -- breathe slowly and deeply.

  • Place one knee over the other and hold your foot with both hands. Using your thumb massage the arch of your foot, starting at the heel and ending at the toes.

  • Grab each individual toe gently and rotate it clockwise and counter-clockwise. Visualize your feet floating and all the muscles relaxed.
