Editor?s Note: We met Annika at the WDW Radio New York City meet.? If you were in The Box, you saw her, too, as she explained that her idol is none other than Beci Mahnken, owner of Mouse Fan Travel and frequent guest on the WDW Radio Show.? Annika is joining the blog team as a Kids and Teens writer.? In her first piece, she introduces herself and explains her school project?when she was impersonating Beci!? Welcome to the team, Annika!
Hello, my name is Annika!? I am 10 years old, and I live in Connecticut.? I went to Disney World in 2010.? I started listening to Lou?s podcast last August.? Here are my Disney world favorites. . .
Theme park: Hollywood Studios
Attraction:?? The Great Movie Ride
Restaurant:? Chef Mickey?s
Dish at favorite restaurant:? chocolate waffles
Character:? Tinkerbell
Book about the parks: The Unofficial guide to Walt Disney World 2011 (I like reading the 800-page book cover to cover!) and The Kingdom Keeper series
Aside from planning different Disney ?vacations, I like watching musicals, such as Wicked and Les Miserables.? When I grow up, I want to be a Disney Tour guide and live in a tree house villa.? I like to read a lot, and my favorite books are the Harry Potter books.?? My hobbies are acting, reading, swimming, gymnastics, and planning Disney trips!
At my school, we had to pick a state and do a report on it.? I picked Florida.? Three guesses why!? At the end of the year, my teacher told the class that we had to do a presentation about the state.? Since Beci Mahnken is my role model, I decided to have a mock podcast where Beci is taking over for Lou, and I pretend to be Beci!? I wrote three different questions and answered them.? Here is my presentation:
?Hello, I?m Beci Mahnken and I?ll be filling in for Lou Mongello today on WDW Radio, your Walt Disney World information station.? This week I will be opening the inbox once again to answer listener emails.
This is the first email.? ?Hi Lou.? My family and I love roller coasters.? We will be making our first trip to Disney and I would like to know the names of some of the best roller coasters in each park.?
I think you should purchase a guidebook!? May I recommend The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World?? There are many great things in The Magic Kingdom.? There is Space Mountain, a ride through Space, Splash Mountain, a water coaster, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, a ride in an abandoned mining town, and Stitch?s Great Escape, not really a coaster, but a wild attraction.? In EPCOT, The Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, there are no real coasters.? However, there is Mission Space, a simulated ride to Mars, and Test Track, an attraction where you are a test dummy.? In Hollywood Studios, there is Rock?n Roller Coaster, starring Aerosmith, which is a fast ride with rock music, and Hollywood Hotel, aka the Tower of Terror, a horrifying attraction in an elevator.? In Animal Kingdom, there is Expedition Everest, a ride on Mt. Everest, and Dinosaur, a ride back in time.? Be sure to get Fast Passes to avoid long lines!
The next email is:? ?Hi Lou!? Don?t get me wrong, we love Disney, but this vacation we?re looking for something to do outside of Disney.? We were hoping you would have some ideas.? Thanks!?
Well, it depends on what your family likes.? If your family likes thrill rides, you could go to Universal Orlando.? There are tons of roller coasters.? Universal?s Islands of Adventure also has The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, based on the Harry Potter books.? I still need to drag Lou over there!? In addition, there is the Orlando Science Center, which I have heard is super fun.? If you are interested in aviation or space exploration, Cocoa Beach houses The Kennedy Space Center.? If you like animals, you can try Gatorland or Sea World.? Both are in Orlando.? And, you can always go to Florida?s beautiful beaches!
Here is question number three. ? Dear Lou, I need your help.? Last time we went to Disney World we stayed at my parents? house.? I found it quite squished. ?I am looking for hotels, and I thought you might be able to help.?
I am not sure how much money you are looking to spend, but there are good options in all price ranges.? A good value hotel is All Star Sports, Music, and Movies.? A good moderately priced hotel is The Swan and Dolphin.? It has 13 world-class restaurants and heavenly beds.? A more expensive deluxe resort is The Contemporary Resort.? It is modern and has a monorail running through it, which can take you straight to the parks.? It is home to Chef Mickey?s, a character restaurant and California Grill if are looking for fancy cuisine.?? Another choice would be to rent a house using All Star Vacation Homes.? They range from two bedroom condominiums to eight bedroom houses.? All of these options are good ones.
That is going to be all for this week.? I hope you will listen again next week when Lou comes back, or you can watch his live newscast on Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m. eastern time.?? You can view part of my presentation below.
Did you like the script?? It was really fun, and many people told me that I did a good job.? I was supposed to bring in a dish or beverage from Florida.? I wanted to bring chicken and waffles from Liberty Square that Lou dreams about, but I brought a lemon/lime/orange seltzer drink from allrecipies.com instead.
I attended Lou?s NYC meet in June.? It was a lot of fun.? I got to meet great people such as Lou, Christy, Tony and other people who are as obsessed about Disney as I am.? This is Disney World? and WDW Radio worshipper, signing off!
