What?s Your Vision for Porirua?s Recreation and Open Spaces?
Porirua City Council wants to hear your views on the newly launched draft Recreation and Open Space Strategy 2012-2022.
The strategy sets a vision and a framework for managing the city?s parks, play areas, swimming pools, sports grounds and harbour. It makes use of community consultation and surveys carried out over the past two years.
The draft vision is: People are inspired by and energised to participate in the richness and diversity of Porirua?s parks and places.
The strategy also sets two clear goals for the future management of Porirua?s recreation and open spaces:
? Our public open spaces are healthy, well-maintained, connected and enjoyed.
? People have safe and easy access to great places and activities for recreation and sport.
Do you agree?
?Our aim with this strategy is to significantly enhance the experience of Porirua?s natural environment and recreation spaces to residents and visitors ? along with developing and preserving it for generations to come,? says Councillor Sue Dow who heads the Council?s infrastructure and environment portfolio.
?Porirua City?s defining feature is its superb harbour and natural landscape. We are also privileged to live in a city with wonderful parks and sports facilities. This draft strategy gives us an opportunity to think carefully about how we want those assets managed and developed in the coming years.?
I encourage everyone to consider and comment on the proposed strategy and action plan,? says Councillor Sue Dow.
Submissions on the draft strategy close on 13 April 2012.
Copies of the draft strategy and submission forms can be viewed and downloaded on the Council website www.pcc.govt.nz (keyword search: ROSS).
They are also available at the Council offices in Cobham Court and at Porirua City Libraries.
